Winchester, VA – July 30, 2020 – Blue Ridge United is excited to announce the addition of Rob Douglas as College Placement Coordinator, effective immediately. This addition to the club’s programming demonstrates Blue Ridge United’s commitment to providing a complete pathway for its players interested in playing beyond their youth soccer years. Rob’s role as College Placement Coordinator will include:
- Hosting college placement informational meetings / club recruiting events
- Developing relationships with men’s and women’s college coaches on behalf of the club
- Holding individual player meetings to provide college soccer guidance
- Facilitating player communication with college coaches prior to showcase/ID events.
Douglas, a graduate of local James Wood High School in 1988, has experienced success at the collegiate level as a player and as a coach. After graduating from James Wood High School, Douglas played 4 years at Ferrum College in Virginia. Following his playing career, he then moved into coaching roles with the men’s and women’s teams at Ferrum.
Dustin Butcher, Blue Ridge United Executive Director, had this to say, “When we came in last February, we made a commitment to provide as many opportunities for our players as we could – at every age and level. Adding a College Placement Coordinator to our staff was something we felt was extremely important based on feedback from our players and parents.”
Following his time at Ferrum, Douglas returned to Winchester where he has served local players ever since. During the 2006-2008 seasons, he served as assistant coach for Sherando High School boys soccer. He recently returned to the high school game at Millbrook High School – first with the boys in 2018 and currently with the girls. Douglas also served as Blue Ridge Youth Soccer Association’s Director for 7 years in addition to coaching the Winchester United 1999 boys team for 10 years.
“As we put our staff together, our first priority is finding good people. Rob had a tremendous influence on me as a player and continues to influence me as a coach. There is not a person I can think of that will care more about our players and their futures than Rob. We are very excited to have him in this role,” said Butcher.
"I am excited for this opportunity to help United players with the next step in their careers. This is a very good step for our players and for Blue Ridge United as a Club. It will be very rewarding to see players and families find a program that fits their needs as a student-athlete,” said Douglas.
